COVID-19 (coronavirus) - UPDATE POST LOCKDOWN

Question & Answers - Post 23.03.2020

Are You Still Offering Treatment?

Absolutely, we are fully open and servicing your bodies needs, we are written into law that we are exempt from the lockdown.

You can see the legislation here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/made

Treatments

Patient and practitioner time under 2m will require some PPE protection. i,e, masks and gloves  may be needed, you will be provided with this free-of-charge when needed

(please note that some medical insurance providers won't pay for your PPE protection if you're claiming through Axia PPP or BUPA you may have to pay a £5 supplement).

Clinic Front Desk

Expect also for the reception to feel a bit militant with our new COVID-19 procedures (Places to stand and place to sit, this is for distance keeping/social distancing).

Am I Able To Leave Home For A Chiro Session?

We are caregivers and provide medical care so you can see us, yes.

This excerpt is taken directly from the prime minister speech on 23.03.2020:

That is why people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

  • any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;

After this, secondary legislation came out specifically mentioning Chiropractors and other medical providers as exempt from closure as well as a place you are legally able to travel.

We are mentioned in part 3 businesses exemptions, the number 37:

Dental services, opticians, audiology services, chiropody, chiropractors, osteopaths and other medical or health services, including services relating to mental health.

Read/ reveiw the legislation here if you would like:

What If I Am In A High Risk Group

If you have received a letter or other communication telling you to stay isolated we would strongly recommend you do so. However, we can organise a tele-consult first, £15, and we have developed a smartphone App system to take photos of your body and send them in for evaluation.

From this smartphone app data, we can get a personal rehabilitation prescription developed that is highly effective.

If you feel you need from hands-on-care - please contact us on 02085403389 - we do have a shift for the high-risk individuals on Mondays where the clinic has been deep cleaned and left dormant for 72 hrs which should mean the risk is lower.

Please get in contact if you feel you're in this category 02085403389.

How Do I Know If I am High Risk?

Most people will know this already, and the NHS will be sending a letter or communication to these groups.

However, a simple method is to ask yourself a few questions.

  • Are you aged over 70 years of age?
  • Are you on immune suppressant drugs i.e of cancer or an autoimmune condition?
  • Do you have a diabetes diagnosis?
  • Do you have issues with your lungs?
  • Do you have issues with your abdominal organs i.e kidney, liver, spleen?

If you answered yes to any of the above you are likely at high risk and I may be more harmful to leave and get hands-on treatment. further reading can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

Should you be high-risk categorised or think you might be we need more information regarding your case but first enquiry with GP online or 111 as painkillers may help.

If this painkillers avenue doesn't help - then we have some low-risk shifts that we will place you into. to start we can have telephone consult and our

clinical analysis is done via a smartphone app.

This App is called RemoteScreen Connect (Apple devices only) and can be downloaded ready for a phone consult - click here to download from the Apple app store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/remotescreen-connect/id1199089686

Warning you need a friend or family to take pictures on an Apple device?

Travel Distance (Public Transports)

The distance you travel on public transport may expose you needless risk - it, therefore, maybe better to call a local clinic to see if they will see you or try to travel in, your household's car.

But what About Social Distancing?

You can read our Yellow Zone Tab in our Safety Wear Policy section. This ensures you will be 2 metres away from front desk staff and others in the clinic.

However, we are arranging any face-to-face appointments so that you will normally be one of only two patients in our very large clinic reception.

Safety Wear Policy

Personal protection is important for both our practitioners and you so during this high-risk time we are asking all clients to wear masks and gloves if face to face consults is required - these are provided as part of your COVID-19 treatment cost.

  • Face Masks
  • Protective Gloves
  • Yellow Lined Zones
  • Face Masks

Type II Surgical Facemasks & Gloves are provided to clients during our NEW COVID-19 PROTOCOLS.

These provide some resistance, i.e. light breathing; they're not for repetitive coughs but are adequately safe when asymptomatic. They don't provide complete immunity to COVID-19.

NOTE: All masks provide less protection, the longer they are worn. Don't rely on these over 1 hour of normal breathing use.

  • Protective Gloves

We don't use latex gloves, but mostly use nitrile or vinyl materials. these allow a high strength, high stretch, thin wall construction that was not possible until now. This delivers incredible benefits: Safe, Dependable, Sensitive & Durable. But more importantly,  they protect contact with skin & these can be binned after use.

NOTE: You still need to wash or disinfect your hands after glove use.

  • Yellow Lined Zones

PLEASE OBSERVE YELLOW LINES IN CLINIC

These zones and no stand areas ensure social distancing of 2m inside the reception areas

More details:

In recognition of the General Chiropractic Council and the government lockdown statement, we are today going to:

  • 1:

Radically reduce the number of routine check-ups (maintenance care) by cancelling patients from vulnerable groups (and offering cancellation to anyone else who wishes to do so) to reduce the need to travel and have close contact with others in waiting rooms. - This will also conserve supplies of PPE for urgent care and free up capacity for critical and necessary care that cannot be delayed.

  • 2:

Agree on local arrangements to consolidate, where appropriate, the provision of any essential care; Services will not be delivered to those with potential COVID symptoms or those in their households, following the current guidance. Information about this service should be available to all prospective patients and at any point of referral.

  • 3:

Set up mechanisms to establish whether any potential patient or anyone in their household has symptoms, before any visit, by phone or text these phone consults.

  • 4:

Consider the potential risk of asymptomatic cases attending in this delay phase and reduce exposure of staff and patients to infection by avoiding all sweat and substantial breathing procedures wherever possible. Also reducing session time with the practitioner and client interaction which is less than 2m i.e. cutting out massage elements.

  • 5:

Display the materials on COVID-19 available on the website www.chiropractorwimbledon.co.uk

  • 6:

Use robust infection control procedures, wiping down surfaces between patients with extra vigilance to include door handles etc. and use standard PPE – We have set out new guidance on the use of full-face visors as an alternative for certain situations to masks and eye protection. Patients with urgent treatment needs that cannot be delayed, who have COVID symptoms should be referred to local services which are being set up who will have appropriate facilities and PPE for these patients.
